Development of a biotechnological therapy based on enzybiotics to combat hospital-acquired infections
ENZINETO-V is an R&D project whose objective is to develop an innovative biotechnological therapy based on enzybiotics to combat hospital-acquired infections, particularly those caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria such as Acinetobacter baumannii. These infections, which are common in hospital settings and particularly severe in patients in intensive care units, represent a major public health challenge due to the growing resistance to conventional antibiotics. The project aims to develop and validate a new enzybiotic, exploring two routes of administration: intravenous delivery for critically ill intubated patients and intranasal delivery for chronically ill non-intubated patients, thereby optimising both treatment efficacy and personalisation.

ENZINETO-V aims to offer a groundbreaking therapeutic alternative for antibiotic-resistant hospital-acquired infections, helping to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with these conditions. The development of enzybiotics will make it possible to overcome the limitations of traditional antibiotics, thanks to their high specificity, effectiveness against multidrug-resistant bacteria and a lower risk of driving the emergence of new resistance.
In addition, the project will generate advanced biotechnology knowledge, drive technology transfer, and position the consortium as a leading reference in the development of innovative antimicrobial solutions.
The project will have a direct impact on Navarra’s economy and business ecosystem, strengthening the regional biotechnology sector and creating highly skilled employment. ENZINETO-V will help consolidate Navarra as a hub for health and biotechnology innovation, attracting investment and fostering collaboration between companies, research centres and public and private organisations.
In addition, the development of new therapies and advanced technologies will strengthen the region’s competitiveness at both national and international level, positioning Navarra as a benchmark in the fight against antimicrobial resistance and in cutting-edge biomedical research.
