Healthcare is one of Navarre’s areas of specialisation and stands out as a booming sector.
As a result of the impetus and entrepreneurial efforts of business people and specialists, and with the support of the administrations, the region has achieved a very prominent position at international level in areas such as biotechnology, food chemistry and pharmaceuticals.

Navarre has a solid scientific‑technological infrastructure in regard to healthcare, with internationally renowned biological medicine research centers such as CIMA and the University of Navarre, along with a public ecosystem of biological medicine research driven by the Institute of Sanitary research of Navarre (IDISNA) and the Miguel Servet Foundation – Navarrabiomed. There are also companies which cover a large part of the value chain, some of which have achieved international recognition, such as Cinfa, the leading laboratory in both units and values in Spanish pharmacies, or Palobiofarma, recently selected as one of the 99 most innovative companies in Europe according to the European Innovation Council (EIC).
The size of the community, together with the activity of the NHC, means that the research capacity is strengthened by the active collaboration between academic institutions, research centres and companies in the sector.
The Navarre biosanitary industry currently exceeds 80 companies, employs more than 31,000 people and has increased its turnover by 20% since 2016. Of the total number of people working in the healthcare area, 1,065 work in research and 2,465 in the healthcare industry.
