The Navarra Health Cluster, the association that brings together companies and entities from the health sector in Navarra, has held its third working session at its headquarters in Emilio Arrieta 8, 7th, to analyse the impact of the Action Plan against cancer proposed by the European Health Union in the region.
The session was attended by 20 participants from 10 different entities, who discussed and analysed the flagship initiatives underway within the European Plan against cancer. The session was attended by 4 NHC partners (NAVARRABIOMED, NNBI, CIMA, the Cancer Center of the Clínica Universitaria de Navarra) together with several proffesionals from Hospital Universitario de Navarra and the Health Department of Gobierno de Navarra, la Asociación Española contra el Cáncer and other interested companies like Betternostics. The session was moderated by Laura Corcuera, Managing Director of Navarra Health Cluster, with the support of Zabala Innovation.
One of the highlights was the creation of the “Knowledge Centre of Cancer” and the European Cancer Imaging Initiative. These initiatives aim to improve research and knowledge in the field of cancer, facilitating the exchange of information and the development of new imaging techniques for the early detection and monitoring of cancer.
Issues such as the right to be forgotten, which will soon be regulated in Spain, and the importance of sharing patients’ medical records, which is already possible in Navarra, were also discussed. However, challenges were identified in relation to the data to be recorded, the coding of information to facilitate sharing and the technological-legal aspects that affect the protection and transmission of data in a federated manner.
It was emphasised that cancer-related tools are not diagnostic tools, but support tools, and it is essential to have scientific publications supporting their use. Another important issue was lung cancer screening, for which a report is being prepared. In addition, advances in liquid biopsy research were mentioned and the opportunity for pragmatic clinical trials funded by the European Commission, comparing routine clinical practice with new non-invasive diagnostic solutions, was highlighted.
In relation to the fight against cancer, the creation of a network linking all national cancer centres was proposed, strengthening collaboration and cooperation in the research and treatment of this disease.
In short, the Navarra Health Cluster continues its analysis of the impact of the European Health Union and its priority initiatives in the region, this time focusing on the Cancer Action Plan. The aim is to understand how these European measures can benefit Navarra and to find opportunities to strengthen cancer research, care and treatment in the region.
The Navarra Health Cluster continues to play a crucial role in the analysis and promotion of health in Navarra, bringing together various actors in the sector to develop joint strategies and make the most of the opportunities offered by the European Health Union.
