Multisensory device for the detection and subsequent personalised treatment of hemispatial neglect and other brain impairments in stroke patients using Mixed Reality and Artificial Intelligence

Objective

VYSIUM HEALTH is an R&D project aimed at developing an innovative multisensory medical device for the detection and personalised treatment of hemispatial neglect and other brain impairments in patients who have suffered a stroke. The device integrates Mixed Reality (MR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to deliver therapies tailored to the specific needs of each patient, thereby optimising neurological rehabilitation processes.
The project addresses one of the leading causes of disability and mortality by proposing an advanced technological solution that improves patients’ quality of life and autonomy, while responding to the current lack of effective tools for the diagnosis and treatment of hemispatial neglect.

Project partners

The VYSIUM HEALTH consortium is made up of leading organisations in healthcare, technology and biomedicine in Navarre:

  • Ysium Medical, S.L. (project leader): a technology startup specialising in the design and development of innovative medical devices.
  • Data Value Management, S.L. (DVM): a company specialising in artificial intelligence, advanced analytics and healthcare software development.
  • Zamarripa Ópticos – JUANDAHU, S.L.: a leading provider in advanced optometry and vision therapy.
  • Fundación para la Investigación Médica Aplicada (FIMA/CIMA): a centre of excellence in translational biomedical research.
  • University of Navarra (UNAV): a leading biomedical research partner in this project, focused on clinical research and neuropsychology.
  • Public University of Navarra (UPNA): with extensive experience in medical device research, specialising in haptic and auditory technologies and prototyping.
  • Navarra Brain Damage Association (ADACEN): expert in neurorehabilitation and clinical validation with patients.
  • Navarra Health Cluster (NHC): responsible for the dissemination, communication, data protection and intellectual property of the project.

Expected impact

VYSIUM HEALTH aims to transform post-stroke neurorehabilitation by integrating advanced technologies that enable accurate detection of hemispatial neglect and the dynamic personalisation of treatments. This approach is expected to significantly improve patients’ functional outcomes and autonomy, helping to reduce both the care burden on families and healthcare professionals and the costs associated with stroke treatment.
In addition, the project will drive technological innovation in the health sector, creating new business opportunities and highly skilled jobs in Navarre. Collaboration between companies, universities and research centres will be a key pillar, strengthening the regional innovation ecosystem and facilitating knowledge transfer.
Altogether, this will position both the consortium and Navarre as benchmarks in the development of advanced technological solutions for neurorehabilitation and personalised medicine, consolidating the region as a leading environment for digital health and healthcare technology.

The project will have a direct impact on Navarre’s economy and business ecosystem, consolidating the region as a hub for digital health and healthcare technology innovation. VYSIUM HEALTH will contribute to the creation of highly skilled employment, the attraction of investment and the internationalisation of the participating companies.

In addition, it will strengthen Navarre’s competitiveness at both national and international level by promoting knowledge transfer and the creation of new startups and technology-based companies in the health sector.
